Carla the Author

Carla loves to read! Reading has been a passion of hers since she was a little girl.  She can't count the number of books she has read.  Often when she would be reading a book, she would dream of writing a book of her own. Her first serious thought of writing a book came when she was about forty years old. At that time, she had been an accountant for years over 15 years and becoming bored with the numbers. She had no idea of what she wanted to write about so she didn't until 2016.

In October 2015 when Carla was diagnosed with breast cancer, she was floored. Her first thought was "Am I going to die?" Her answer came quickly...God said to her "you stay focused on a positive outcome; prepare to tell my story and I will do the rest".  She  adjusted her thoughts and attitude instantly.  Her cancer diagnosis was Triple Negative Breast Cancer, which is an aggressive form of cancer so she had to have chemotherapy first, then a double mastectomy followed by radiation.  After her second treatment of chemotherapy, she began to put pen to pad journaling the entire process  to create her one woman show.

Carla realized that she could not tell the entire story in an hour and a half show -- so this was the birth of the idea for the book.  Comedy and cancer gave her story for her debut book: Cancer Ain't Funny! Laugh Anyway...

Carla had her first story, Filled with Laughter published in the Birmingham Art Journal. Now that Carla has been bitten by the writing bug, she is currently working on her next book which will be an Anthology.

Cancer Ain't Funny! Laugh Anyway...
